Janice has been advising and advocating on behalf of clients since 1989, concentrating in the areas of family law, civil litigation & wills and estates. A skilled negotiator and trial lawyer, Janice is committed to helping her clients resolve difficult issues by providing candid, practical advice and representation. In the area of family law, she advises clients on issues including separation agreements, marriage and cohabitation contracts, child custody and access, spousal and child support, divorce, division of assets, and adoptions. Janice has conducted trials and hearings at all levels of Court in Nova Scotia. She was a partner with the firm of Beaton Derrick prior to joining Coady Filliter. Finding a balance between work and leisure is important too. Janice enjoys cross-country skiing, hiking, swimming and golfing. A volunteer with many community groups, including Girl Guides of Canada, Janice also actively participates in the following professional organizations: - Canadian Bar Association Family Law Subsection - Gender Equity Committee of the Nova Scotia Barristers' Society (Past Chair) - Nova Scotia and National Association of Women and the Law Janice received her Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from Saint Mary's University in 1985 and her Bachelor of Laws from Dalhousie University in 1988.
